Creating A Mastermind Team

Creating A Mastermind Team

The secret to your success may not lie with your abilities or your talents, but rather, in the types of people you surround yourself with on a daily basis. Your business is only as good as the people running it. Find a great team of people to give you the support you need and you will go far. But fall prey to the wrong personalities and you may find yourself struggling to survive, let alone thrive.  Success builds upon success. That is why it is so important to create a mastermind team of experts who can handle all the things you can’t (or don’t want to). Whether you are looking for one or two people to work with you on a certain project or to build an empire, looking for (and finding) the right mix of talent is tough. The task can be overwhelming if you do not understand what kind of people you need for your team. Having good workers is not enough. Even finding talented workers is not enough. In order for you to get to the next level in your career, you have to find a certain mix of personalities that can work together to build you and your business up. Here are just a few examples:

The Pusher

This person is your inspiration. He or she helps motivate you with their words and actions. They help push you along on your journey by helping you think.  They help to keep you energized and enthusiastic even when things are not going as planned.

The Doubter

While your pusher and cheerleader help motivate you to succeed, the doubter is the person who asks the hard questions and makes you see problems before they arise. Do not confuse this person with a dream stealer.  He or she wants you to succeed but understands that may mean being your devil’s advocate who has to investigate all the pros and cons of your decisions and keeps you headed in the right direction. The doubter is your voice of reason.

The Taskmaster

Everyone needs a push to get things done from time to time and that is exactly the job of the taskmaster. Not meant to motivate you like the pusher, the taskmaster is the one who demands you complete tasks on time and keeps you on track until each of your goals are met. This may be a friend, spouse, loved one or could be an administrative assistant who knows exactly what you need done and is not afraid to let you know (sometimes loudly) that you are falling behind.

The Mentor

The best way to succeed is to have someone who you can emulate. Someone who has already accomplished great things and you can learn from. It is someone you strive to make proud. A mentor is also someone who is willing to guide you through your journey, sharing your triumphs and your mistakes and helping you see the right path, even when you are blind to it. Once you have found personalities that fit these needs, then you will be able to put those people to work handling the individual tasks and areas they are best qualified for. Every business is different and your needs may be very different than someone else handling the same kind of work. If you find you need two assistants, one to keep you motivated and on course and the other to handle your interactions with clients, then so be it; find two people to handle what another executive may use one person for. To determine what type of workers you will need to round out your team, consider the types of jobs you need help with, the kind of talent you are lacking, and the kind of person who will work well with the rest of the crew.  The point of building a solid team is not having a certain number of people to drive your business, but the right types of people and personalities to give you the support, the help and the vision to move onto the next level.
